Raul is a young Shar pei/Labrador blend who joined our crew of awesome adoptables all of the way from Puerto Rico.  He is though to be about 2 years old and weighs about 75 pounds.  He is really happy go lucky and playful.  He is a wonderful all around guy.  He would love to have a forever family who would play a game of fetch with him - he really loves the game.  Raul does well with other dogs, but he prefers a home without cats.  He is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. Please lets find him a good home!

Tara is a beautiful Pyrenese. She recently had the opportunity to spend a few weeks in Boot Camp Training so she would learn the basics...sit, stay, down, up, come, and walks well on a leash. According to her professional trainer, Tara is a wonderful dog. She has a great attitude, and is enthusiastic about life. Tara loves, loves, loves to play...especially with dogs her size and even a bit larger. She is wonderful with both male and female dogs. Her new home should definitely have at least one or two dogs and a large yard to keep Tara happy. She is not that great with cats, as she tends to chase them. Like many dogs she does have her quirks, she apparently loves to relocate items...especially shoes, socks and gloves. In her foster home she has relocated the water bowl from the the play yard. What the foster dad can't figure out she did it without spilling the water?  Tara is one loving dog that will enrich any family. Please lets find her a loving home!

Tara - Spring, TX

Mr Watson is a young West Highland Terrier mix.  He is bright, high energy boy who wants to play all day and sleep on your lap at night.  He is good with dogs and children. One wonderful ball of joy for the right family. Please lets find him a great home!

Monday Musings

It warmed up to 40 yesterday and let me tell you it felt like Spring.  If only it could have stayed that way but unfortunately the arctic air is back.  Saturday we had around 6 inches of snow, followed by sleet then rain.  That's the kind of winter it's been here.  Instead of average highs in the 40's it's been in the 20's and with wind chills that make it feel real cold.  Philadelphia is actually setting records for cold. And forget about an early Spring as experts are predicting cooler than normal temperatures for the foreseeable future.  So my west coast friends would you like a guest with a sweet dog for a few months?  :)

The week consisted of catching up.  Given the way the dizziness has been linger it's really been making me feel tired which is unusual for me.  But I also find sleep choppy these days so though I fall asleep it's hard staying asleep.  You would think the dizziness would be helped by sleep but  the sleep state can bring on attacks.

Also made some carrot cupcakes to celebrate Angels birthday.  They were one of her favorites so what better way to remember her by.

Friday the man stepped up and took my niece to her schools My Guy dance.  My brother in law had plans which had been made before they knew about the dance.  I was happy and impressed that the man took her, as it meant a lot to her.  And I do believe he actually had fun as well.  He likes hanging with her. Figured they would be tired after the dance but they actually came home and played some wii.  While they were out on the town my sister and I got to catch up over dinner.  It never feels long enough though to catch up on all we do. We also had a delicious dinner too!

Saturday we stayed in as there was lots of snow to contend with.  Given the cold air things got slippery quick. Spent the day lounging and shoveling.

Sunday was a mess, with the temperatures warming for one day everything was melting and streets were a mess.  Taking Cooper for a walk resulted in his white fur being covered in cinders and turning black.  Needless to say the little guy had to get a bath.  And to show you how tired I've been feeling I actually took two naps!

Today was busy.  Spent morning catching up on paperwork, then made homemade vegetable soup as I'm trying to eat healthier.  Thought I had a doctors appointment but when I arrived they informed me the confirmation I received was wrong, that it's actually tomorrow.  Go figure. Since there is a Walmart right by the office at least I got some errands accomplished. On way home got gas but also stuck in a lane I didn't want to be in because of a huge ryder truck that cut in front of me and blocked me from getting over causing me to drive in an out of way loop to get home.

Got home anxious to try out the new sweater shaver from Walmart as I have a bunch of sweaters that either need to be defuzzed or thrown out.   While it is small and seems to take awhile to do it did improve the look of the sweaters.  Though one sweater took a lot longer than I thought it would.  In fact I took a break to type this blog but still have a pile of sweaters to do. ha

All right that's about it time to have some dessert and try to relax. Here is a photo from this weekend that makes me so happy!

For You

Angel today is your birthday, you would be 14.  Hard to believe it's been 10 months already.  Honestly it feels like an eternity.  I deeply miss you in a way that no words can describe.

They say that those we have loved echo still within our thoughts, our words and our hearts.  And what they did and who they were becomes a part of all that we are, forever....that I believe.

As I know my heart will always wear the paw prints left by you.  Happy Birthday my sweet Angel.

You were my light, my heart,  my gift of love and joy, from the very highest source.   So everyday, I vow to make a difference, share a smile, live, laugh and love.  Now I live for us both, so all I do, I do to honor you.

Woof Wednesday

Welcome to Woof Wednesday. Please meet some great dogs from CA, NY, PA and TX all in need of good, loving homes!

Chris is a West Highland Terrier mix who was rescued from the streets. He was a stray. A beautiful dog that needs a short time to trust you. Once he trusts within hours he wants your attention to be his buddy. He has had some training as he knows SIT - "NO" and come. He has a lot of energy and will benefit from walks. He gets on with dogs his size that we know of. He does try to hog the attention. He is a very smart dog and will benefit by going to training with the owner. Please lets find him a loving home!

Dublin is a miniature Poodle who is ridiculously cute. This little man is 8 years old and about 12 lbs. He just wants to be your super smart, super adoring title companion. He's good with most people he meets and other dogs, but too much action stresses him out and he would do best in a low key, grownups only home. He prefers women, and he just wants to be your loyal little companion.  He adores rubbing himself against your legs and cozying up for some cuddle time.  Please lets find a great home!

Dublin - New York,NY

Ali is a Shepherd / Labrador Retriever mix adult dog who acts more like a puppy. She is 2-4 years old and 38 lbs. She can be a little reserved at first, but once she gets to know you, she is social and friendly. She's not used to being on a leash, but she is not difficult to manage, and she'll learn manners quickly - she's a smart girl! Ali is social with other dogs and children, but not with cats. She would probably benefit from basic obedience training to create a strong bond between her and her new owner. Please lets find her a good home!
 Ali - Philadelphia, PA

Bogie is a Labrador Retriever who is sweet boy that loves to cuddle and snuggle with everyone. He will sleep with you all night if you let him! He isn't afraid to get dirty and loves to run. He jumps with joy when it's food time and his favorite treat is a piece of ice. He literally comes running when he hears the ice maker. He would be a great addition to any family. He is kennel trained and house trained and knows how to sit. Please lets find him a loving home!

Monday Musings

It's been arctic cold here, were talking -20 in windchill.  The wind gusting as high as 60 mph on Sunday made it feel like a tropical storm, if only the temperatures were tropical.  We had a little snow on Saturday, and more is expected tonight.

The week seemed filled with of ups and downs.  Including some on and off dizziness while I tried to get what needed to be done. And after cleaning house and doing oodles of laundry today I'm about ready for a nap.  Forget the gym cleaning house is total workout and more.  Sometimes I do 3 loads just of bedding between sheets, comforters, blankets. Think I need a huge professional washer and dryer. ha

The weekend started off great as my niece came over for the day on Friday.  Hearing her stories, being around her energy and getting to play are great. It was a fun day!  The man and her even played wii as well.  Friday evening the man gave me a bouquet of daisies for Valentine's Day and a very nice card.  We even did some take out.  All great!  But then....

Saturday got off to a rocky start, my favorite holiday and the man put a damper on it.  As his remarks about going to a family party, a party for my birthday none the less, sparked an argument of sorts. Seem to hear the same comments every holiday or get together. Him leaving the couch to do something together seems to have become an epic big deal. My family is rather laid back, usually the man will sit and watch sports or play games with my niece.  Even afterwards he says how much fun he has so his before comments make no sense.  Sometimes I wonder if he has anxiety about going out or being around people.  I've noticed ever since he got off the pain meds, almost two years now, he has wanted to go out less and less. Think overall he hasn't been himself nor felt good.  His body has had an adjustment of sorts which can take a while to re balance. Overall he has much more attitude and less enthusiasm toward everything.

And he doesn't have the same relationship with his family as I have with mine, he sees his mom maybe a few times a year if that.  Isn't all that close to his sister. So I think it's hard for him to understand that my family enjoys being together and hanging out. I will say is this, words can be forgiven but much harder to forget. They can build up over time eventually eroding even the best of relationships. Its important to effectively communicate.

But the day was salvaged as my family made my birthday fun and special.  They brought laughs and love.  The man eventually loosened up. My niece is the best.  She actually used money my mom gave her to buy gifts for me, what other six year old do you know who thinks to spend gift money given to them on others?  I simply adore her!  She even bought me a princess birthday sash to wear. She might understand kindness, love and unselfishness better than many adults I know.

Sunday everyone woke up exhausted.  Cooper doesn't like wind, so the 60 mph gusts were freaking him out.  I had to sleep on the couch with him as you can't hear the wind as much downstairs, but even then he was still popping up to growl in the wee morning hours.  For my birthday the man cooked dinner, we did a little wii sports and got a few new t shirts. The man isn't that into holidays or celebrations. So never know quite what to expect.

Anyway, it's really cold so I'm going to find a blanket and just snuggle in for the night.  Hope your Monday was a good one!  Going to add photos later.

Soul Sunday

In keeping with the love inspiration for Valentine's.

True love is not a strong, fiery, impetuous passion. It is, on the contrary, an element calm and deep. It looks beyond mere externals, and is attracted by qualities alone. It is wise and discriminating, and its devotion is real and abiding.” – Ellen G. White

When is the last time you thought about the innate qualities that make you absolutely adorable?

Maybe you are too busy, scattered, or distracted that you haven’t thought about these qualities for some time. Make no mistake: you possess unique qualities that people truly appreciate and admire. Perhaps without even knowing, someone drew inspiration and strength from these qualities.

Think about the people in your life who you adore and are inspired by. What is it about these individuals that stimulate your inspiration? Perhaps it’s a mother, father, sister, brother, grandparent; could be someone who is not related, or a romantic interest. Is it their humor, strength, intelligence, honesty, energy, resilience, or something else? You can probably think of at least one person that has influenced you in this way.

Adoration – love, devotion, respect, reverence or strong admiration – is one of the strongest emotions that we feel. To adore someone is to be in awe of their being. Further, it creates very strong feelings of attraction. By exhibiting our qualities, we indeed create feelings of attraction and admiration in someone else.

Perhaps you possess some of the following qualities, perhaps you don’t. However, it doesn’t mean that you can’t develop them. Here are nine demonstrable qualities that cause attraction and adoration:

9 ways to attract someone who adores you:

1. Be Yourself

There is nothing more attractive than embracing who you really are and showing that to others. Even if you succeed in attracting someone by using tactics that don’t reflect your true self, it is almost guaranteed that your true self will be discovered. When you allow your unique self to shine through, people will realize, respect, and yes, even adore that.

It all boils down to the fact that we are all truly embodiments of love. Why would you want to create something outside of that? You may have to discover yourself for yourself first, but when you do, you won’t want to ever be anyone else.

2. Be honest

Being honest about your thoughts and feelings is attractive. Honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable, demonstrates individuality and confidence. On the other hand, dishonesty is seen as selfish, manipulative, and egocentric.

Unfiltered honesty about your opinions and perspectives appeals to most people. Those that disagree with and admonish you because of your opinions do not demonstrate understanding or rational thinking. They’re being harshly judgmental and showing people they are ignorant in the process.

Simply put: be honest in everything that you do. Anything else is lying or deceitfulness, plain and simple.

3. Have a sense of humor

Having a sense of humor is a tremendous asset. Life is complicated and messy at times, which makes this quality all the more important. It also turns out that a sense of humor is a quality that causes attraction and adoration.

Women reading this article will attest to humor being incredibly attractive in both friends and romantic partners. Turns out that there is a biological reason why women view humor necessary in both plutonic and romantic relationships.

In a study done at Stanford University, 22 children aged six to 13 were shown a series of video clips – some of which were funny and some not. The children were hooked up to a functional magnetic resonance imaging machine (fMRI) to measure their brain’s activity.

When viewing the humorous material, girls showed more positive feelings in response than the boys did. Further, the girls felt more of a sense of reward in watching them.

Make them laugh.
4. Be confident.

Confidence is not only important in attraction, it’s also important for an individual’s self-esteem. Confident people are easily observed, as they often radiate positivity, courage and self-respect.

Often times, confident people are the change agents of society. They believe very strongly in their ideas and their ability to get people to get behind them – often through sheer self-assurance. It takes a tremendous amount of confidence to create a following – in both yourself and in other people.

The former Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, is a perfect example. Jobs took a computer prototype manufactured in his garage, created a brand, and built a multi-billion dollar empire. Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the other co-founder, dealt with obstacle after obstacle before Apple, Inc. was actually established. Not to mention, Jobs was fired and re-hired as CEO from the very company that he helped create!

5. Practice selflessness

Putting others before ourselves is not something for the faint of heart. Individuals who are selfless have changed our world in incredible ways. These agents of change have often shouldered the heaviest burden; and through their willingness to sacrifice themselves for the greater good, these people continue to earn the respect and adoration of people around the world.

Jesus; Buddha; Gandhi; Mother Teresa; Nelson Mandela; Martin Luther King Jr…some of our greatest leaders were also the most selfless.

Now it turns to you. Is selflessness one of your qualities?

6. Be open minded

As human beings continue to evolve, our society does as well. We are witnessing the challenge of conventional thinking on various issues – gay marriage, marijuana use, armed conflicts, global warming, etc. – viewpoints that were once considered untouchably mainstream.

Regardless of where you stand on an issue, the ability to remain open-minded is an essential quality to have. The ability to challenge conventional thinking, expand your consciousness, and pursue knowledge is invaluable. It also demonstrates intelligence and fluid thinking – two other traits that are admirable in people
7. Be helpful

Have you ever met a selfish person? What was your impression? Similar to most people, you likely didn’t have a favorable opinion. The willingness to help others is something that our world needs more of. Many of the problems that exist – poverty, hunger, and other social ills can be solved if more people just make a determined effort to help.

If you’ve achieved some sort of success and are financially capable, consider donating to a worthy cause. Even better, consider donating your time. Numerous volunteer organizations exist within your community and are always looking for volunteers to work with and promote their cause.

8. Practice humility

What a wonderful breath of fresh air to be around someone who’s successful and intelligent, yet humble and unassuming. In America and other places, we’ve idealized people who are boastful and brash if they’ve achieved any success. The axiom “Actions speak louder than words” has seemingly fallen by the wayside.

Humility is an attractive quality because it’s becoming increasingly rare. There will always be the crowd that idolizes the brash and domineering qualities of successful people. However – for us – true admiration and respect is best reserved for those who quietly and unpretentiously make the world a better place.

9. Be resourceful

Resourcefulness – the ability to deal skillfully with new or difficult situations or to find solutions to problems – is a wonderful quality to have. Our experiences have given us a wide range of knowledge that enables us to help ourselves and others.

It’s not enough to simply possess knowledge for your own benefit. It should be used to help others in some way. Remember that not everyone is blessed with the same gifts that you are, and that you can make a big difference in the life of someone else. Truly help others.

Valentine's Love

People can say what they want about Valentine's Day but I adore the holiday.  Only wish everyone had the day off to truly celebrate.

Never understood the people who dislike it, or try to put it down.  Especially the ones who use the excuse that  love should be celebrated everyday not just one day of the year.  While that's true, fact is love often gets overlooked or taken for granted.

How many people even celebrate love?  On a daily basis..... How many people really write love letters, notes or give cards? How many people are affectionate?  How many people even say I love you daily?  Or spoil their loved ones with little romantic gifts on any day not just a holiday?

It all sounds great in theory but then everyday life seems to get in the way of the romance and love.  So having one holiday where love and romance is the sole focus is glorious.  A great reminder about the power of love.  And the holiday doesn't just have to be about romantic love, it's a celebration of love. Soul mates come in all forms....friends, family, co workers, pets and so on.  It's a day to simply show our love for those special people who mean the most to us.

And if no one gives you flowers go out and treat yourself to some. Valentine's Day doesn't have to be about spending a lot of money either.  Making a card or writing a love letter on simple plain paper can mean more than any expensive, fancy gift. Or maybe a picnic instead of expensive dinner. It's the thought that counts.

I myself love a bunch of small gifts....hand written card, bouquet of flowers, stuffed animal, framed photo, favorite candy, homemade sweets, small piece of inexpensive jewelry. Bring on the glitter, the pink and red colored items that fill the stores.  Flowers, clothing, mugs, jewelry, candy, towels, stickers, you name it I love it all.  Probably like a kid at Christmas as I feel so happy when I see a valentine bag filled with little things!

Though honestly putting all that material stuff aside, it truly is the thought that counts the most.  And the meaning of love and Valentine's goes deeper than any gift.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love you all.

And to my little one, it's the first Valentine's Day without, miss you more than words can describe.  The day will never be quite the same without you, you who holds a piece of my heart. Love always.

Gunter appears to be a Golden Retriever mix.  He is friendly and playful. He is full grown at 54 pounds. Gunter is very fun loving and so he will do best with an active family without very young kids. His new family will need to continue his housebreaking and obedience training. He seems to be friendly with other dogs as well as cats. Please lets find him a great home!

Roxy is a Wirehaired Terrier mix who was rescued from an area shelter when she found herself homeless at around 8 years old. She's now safe and sound in foster care and doing great. She weighs around 25 lbs. She has plenty of spunk and loves to go for walks around the neighborhood and rides in the car. She walks very well on the leash and also has great manners. She knows basic commands like sit, and waits nicely for her meals. Roxy loves to snuggle almost as much as she loves treats. She'll do almost anything for a tasty treat and loves to cuddle up on the couch with her foster family. Roxy is currently living with another younger dog who is trying with all his might to get her to play, play, play, but Roxy is more than happy just to hang out and relax with her temporary brother. She'd do just fine in a home with other dogs who wouldn't mind sharing the couch or doggy bed. Roxy also tested well with cats while living in the shelter she really didn't pay much attention to them. She'd likely do well in a home with cats after a proper introduction. Roxy came to the shelter with some patchy skin, but she's now on a healthy diet and some antibiotics to clear it up and she's feeling better than ever. Though she is not symptomatic, she tested low positive with Lyme Disease and is also on a round of antibiotics to knock it out. Otherwise, Roxy is very healthy and is heart worm negative. Roxy is spayed and vaccinated and will be microchipped prior to going to her forever home. Please lets find her a loving home!

Rhett is a Labrador Retriever.  He has got quite a sad story. He was spotted with his friend Scarlett on the side of the road during morning rush hour traffic. Tons of people saw them but no one stopped to help. The Scarlett (a Rottie) was just laying down with the Rhett standing over her, licking and nudging her. We heard from a few people who saw them, that at least one, if not both, of them had been hit by a car. Unfortunately, BARC was called to the scene to pick them up before any of our volunteers could get there. They were picked up early morning and we assumed were on their way to immediately for vet care. But the the animal control officer (not a vet)  picked them up felt that they were ok and didn't need to be brought in. As a result, these two babies sat in the back of a BARC truck until close that day. The next day one of our volunteers went to BARC to see them and couldn't believe what he saw. The Lab was clearly injured, with his mouth swollen and dripping blood and the Rottie had a prominent limp to go with her extreme malnourishment. Seeing the condition that these dogs were in we asked, really begged, if we could get a medical release on them so that we could get them to our vet for immediate treatment. After repeated requests by us and by friends of Scout's Honor that work for BARC, we were shockingly told that the vet on duty at BARC determined that they were fine and didn't need help. So, these poor babies who were obviously injured, sat at BARC in a small, dark, wet jail cell for night 2. We then contacted the Director of BARC who stepped in and helped us get these two out of BARC. Without his help, these two would still be sitting there and suffering until their stray hold was up. Rhett is very scared and learning to trust. He has made huge progress just in the 24 hours we have had him. He's just scared and unsure of things, but there is not a mean bone in his body. He seems to really like Scarlett and lets his guard down a little when she is around and he sees her getting attention. He's just a sensitive boy who needs someone that can be patient with him and teach him that not all people are bad. He a super handsome boy with amazing eyes. We are guessing he is about 3 years old. He would likely do great with another dog and that dog would likely build his confidence. Upon examination by our vet it was discovered that Rhett had at least 30 puncture wounds in his mouth with some on his gums. He was in no doubt a lot of pain and was very scared. He is being treated by our vet and is finally on pain meds. He is resting comfortably at our vet's office in a quiet area and just trying to decompress and get better. Please lets find him a great home!

Monday Musings

Another wintry mix here which has caused icy conditions on walkways, roads and you name it.  Our driveway is one sheet of ice.  I've had it with winter, the cold and cloudy weather is driving me nuts.  The thought of it merely approaching in Fall makes me shudder.  If the cold temperatures aren't bad enough it just feels like winter deflates everyone's spirits, not to mention motivation.  They say even colder weather is on it's way.  Oh yeah and the famous groundhog predicted more winter.

Last night we found ourselves watching HGTV shows on house hunting for places near the beach or in the Caribbean.  As a beach lover it was hard to watch as I just longed to feel the warmth of the sun and smell the salt air.  There is no doubt that I belong in a cottage house by the beach.  That's what my soul desires. Now if only I could convince family to move with us.  About the only way that would happen is if I won the lottery.

Speaking of lottery, the power ball is up to something like 350 million. Can you imagine winning it?  I totally can. Not that I would go on a crazy spending spree. That's not really my style, nor do I desire fancy things.  A beautiful cottage house by the sea would be first on list.  With houses for families close by.  Of course I would need a personalized beach cruiser to ride around town in.

Next up would be a large property of land for an animal sanctuary.  It would be nice if the cottage house could be on the same land. Rescuing animals and giving them a safe place to stay filled with big soft beds, lots of nutritious food, warm baths and so on would be a priority.  Then I'd set up a health foundation of sorts to not only study vertigo but heart issues in women. Of course share it with family, especially my parents who work too hard and deserve to be spoiled. Probably just put the rest in savings as I don't need much to be happy.  Truth is some one is going to win the lottery so why not dream a little about the possibilities.  :)

The weekend wasn't all too exciting as you can probably tell by my lottery dreaming. ha  I was trying to do research on the computer when I had a vertigo spell which basically lasted all day Saturday.  And left me feeling groggy Sunday.  Though at least Sunday I was able to get some stuff done.

The man has been busy interviewing for jobs, it's a rather huge step.  Really hope he finds something he truly likes.  Just want to see him happy, and filled with enthusiasm. That may sound funny but he's such a mellow guy, he's not exactly the over flowing with energy or passion type persona.  We are like night and day.  He's like the moon and I'm more like the sun if that makes sense.  But it's been almost two years since he's worked outside the home and held a full time job so I feel a little nervous for him.  Hoping he can handle the pressure of a work place again.

Well can't spend a whole lot of time on here, maybe I'll more later but for now just going to hit publish.

Soul Sunday

In celebration of the month of February and Valentine's Day some soul inspiration for the heart.

“Being someone’s first love is great, but to be their last is beyond perfect.”

When a couple settles into a relationship, the spark can diminish and make the relationships a little monotonous. The impressing and chasing, or “courting” period is definitely very spunky and fun, but after getting into a relationship, couples can lose that hypnotic attention. It gets replaced by contentment and a sense of security. Couples who were earlier spontaneous in displaying their love get channeled into a fixed routine. Tensions and problems arise frequently. Impressing your beloved and getting into a relationship is much easier that making your relationship work.

Making a relationship work requires patience, commitment, and the intense desire to stick together, come whatever may. These 6 simple reminders can keep the spark alive in your relationship to make it harmonious.
6 Relationship Skills Couples Often Forget:

1. Communication is the core of a happy relationship.

A couple may be deeply love, but reading each others mind isn’t always possible for everyone. Therefore, it’s essential to express your thoughts, ideas, doubts and problems with your partner. You should also share your negative thoughts and emotions with your partner.

If you’re is having problems, or is bothered by something/someone, it’s important to share with your significant other. You might not be willing to bother your partner with this, but keeping it bottled within you can harm the relationship.

Over the stretch of time, if the problem doesn’t get solved, you may even get frustrated and escalate into anger outbursts. Therefore, communication is fundamental whenever either of the people in the relationship is bothered by something.

Miscommunications can be lethal in a relationship. If you misunderstand what your partner wanted to say, talk with them about it and be willing to listen openly. If you feel hurt by your partner’s gesture, tell them calmly that you felt hurt. If you keep quiet and assume things, arguments can sprout, souring the relationship. You may feel that you know your partner very well but also remember that people grow and change with time. So be calm and communicate with your partner openly and often.
2. Don’t be afraid to admit mistakes.

This is extremely important to maintain harmony in your relationship. It can be difficult for some people to accept that they are wrong and their partner is right. However, inculcating this habit can keep your relationship unharmed by ego. If you realize that it was your mistake or you have been wrong with some information, accept it gently. When you admit that you are wrong, you are more likely to gain your partner’s respect.

Similarly when you’re discussing something and find that your partner is right, acknowledge it. It will increase your partner’s self esteem. Being egoistic and always sticking to the belief that you are right will make you appear as an immature and arrogant person in your partner’s eyes.
3. Stay grateful.

“Taking for granted” has been the root cause of plenty of broken relationships. When you are in a relationship, you cannot take things too easy. You have to work on the relationship and nourish it every day.

Manage time for your partner, surprise him or her with little gestures and gifts, recollect memories together and tell your partner how much you love him or her. Making your partner feel loved and appreciated will keep your relationship always healthy.
4. Give your partner a little space.

Spending lots of time together is wonderful but you should also give your partner a little space if they require a little freedom. Some “alone time” is necessary for introspection, contemplation, growth and realization.

A little absence will also give you time to miss each other and make your hearts grow more affectionate towards each other.
5. Provide unconditional acceptance.

When you are in a relationship, you will get to discover a lot of new things about your partner. Some of your partner’s quirks or habits may annoy you but you must provide unconditional acceptance to your partner. Do not try to change your partner or keep unrealistic expectations from them. Love your partner for the person they are.

6. Trust your partner.

Without trust, no relationship can ever survive. Trust your partner and don’t let silly, insignificant things make you suspect them. If you had a bad past and have been betrayed, then it will be tough for you to trust your partner. So, whenever you find yourself enveloped with doubts and insecurities, refer to tip #1 – talk to your partner about it. Do not assume things and let suspicion spoil your relationship.

If couples keep these 6 relationship tips in mind, their relationship will stay unaffected by misunderstandings, ego and insecurities. Every healthy relationship faces some difficult moments but if you follow these tips, you can overcome those problems. Do not look for flaws in your relationship; rather try to work on it. When things go a little off the track, remember the time when you fell in love with your partner. That will make you realize the value of your partner and your relationship.

Go Red

The Go Red campaign is an important cause that deserves more attention.

Heart disease and stroke can differ in women, and are often overlooked.  So it's important as women to know the symptoms, risk factors and when something doesn't feel right don't give up until you get answers.  Many think they don't have to worry about such things until their senior years but it can happen to any one at any age.

Women's heart issues need not only more awareness but funding as well.  Most of the research over the centuries has centered around men not women.  What experts are learning is that treatments used for men can affect women differently.

Personally speaking I have a heart arrhythmia and a leaky heart valve.  They can be very uncomfortable at times, bring on intense anxiety and trying to find something that helps isn't always easy.  Medicines always come with side effects. Often times there is an unknown factor when it comes to such heart disorders.  It's why we as women need more research and funding into heart issues.

Today show your support for women's heart disease by wearing red.  Tweet a selfie with hashtags #GoRedSelfie  #GoRedForWomen

Herbal Teas

When told to avoid caffeine and chocolate finding a warm drink, especially during the cold winter months can be difficult.  Tea and hot chocolate were always my go to choices.  Is there anything better than hot chocolate with marshmallows and whip cream on a cold winter day?  Just writing that makes my mouth water.  :)

It took a while to get used to the idea of not drinking hot chocolate.  Finding warm drink substitutes has not  been easy.  Honestly I never really gave herbal teas a thought until they were the only option.  And then I realized just how many options seemed to exist. A lot of fruity options which I wasn't sure would  fit my plain tastes.

Guess you could say I've been on a taste testing mission. I remember starting off with the Lipton brand because that's the regular tea I always seemed to use.  Their Ginger  I actually enjoyed only to learned it had been discontinued.  So I moved on to try other brands who had more of a selection of flavors. Celestial and Twining quickly became favorites.  While Celestial seems to have more flavor selections at our local market, Twining individually wraps their tea bags which makes them easy to travel with.

I also have a tea ball which allows me to fill it with loose herbs or teas.  It gives the option of creating ones own tea mixture and controlling the amount.

Here are my favorites so far, and as I try more flavors sure this list will be added to as well.  All of these flavors can be light or strong tasting depending upon how long each is brewed. And I prefer to sweeten with honey. While they might not be hot chocolate, herbal teas can be refreshing and come with added health benefits as well.

Lemon Zinger  - Refreshing lemon flavor. Perfect for any meal.

Jammin Lemon Ginger - Strong flavor, good for nausea. Ginger spice can irritate throat sometimes.
Peppermint - Tastes just like a peppermint candy.  Helpful in digestion issues as well.

Cinnamon Apple Spice - This reminds me of apple pie.  Great flavor for any time of day.

Rooibos Madagscar Vanilla -  Delicious. Hard to describe, the rooibos give it somewhat of a sweet
taste with subtle hints of vanilla that I love. Wish they made more herbal
                                              vanilla teas.

Wild Berry Zinger -  If you like berries this is the tea for you.  While I like berries it's not a tea that I tend to
like to drink everyday.  Prefer it more in summer and as a chilled tea.

Lemon Ginger - Their lemon ginger has a very subtle taste which I like a lot. But too much ginger
irritates my throat so I try to rotate with other teas.

Pure Peppermint -Their peppermint tea has a mild flavor.

Blackberry Vanilla -It's a nice fruit taste with hints of vanilla.  Again the vanilla is a nice accent to the berry

Ginger Twist - This ginger had a great flavor and wasn't quite as strong as other brands allowing it to be
consumed frequently. But supposedly it's been discontinued.

Red Raspberry - Strong raspberry taste. Not something I like to drink daily but it's a good dessert type of

Roscoe is a Black Lab/Border Collie mix. This adorable guy has a pretty remarkable story. Roscoe was found digging through trash in Philadelphia the bitter cold of January. His finder, worried about his welfare, checked in with a local business nearby. They confirmed that he had lived there, but he didn't actually belong to anyone. Roscoe was then brought to Philly's animal control shelter for safety. No one came to claim him so City of Elderly Love gladly stepped up to save this amazing dog. Roscoe is around 10 years old. He has a medium length coat with a white blaze on his chest and white socks! Roscoe weighs about 60 lbs and has long, lean legs. When he came to the shelter, it was discovered that Roscoe had severely infected ears; a condition that he likely suffered from for the majority of his life though easily treatable. Despite being in pain and not being able to hear well, Roscoe remained sweet as pie and happy to meet everyone. We quickly got Roscoe surgery to clean out his ears once and for all and be neutered at the same time. He's feeling better now. Roscoe walks great on the leash and loves to go for walk around the neighborhood. He has great manners and already knows basic commands like sit. He also loves to go for car rides and just sits back and goes with the flow. While Roscoe is over his rough and tumble wresting days, he's polite and friendly with all of the children he has met. Beside being a bit underweight and having some normal age related hip stiffness that will resolve with basic joint supplements, Roscoe is otherwise healthy. He'd make a great companion for anyone looking for a sweet, mild mannered and adorable dog. Please lets find him a loving home!

JJ is a handsome Rat Terrier/Dachshund mix puppy.  He is an energetic and who makes friends fast. He enjoys a good game of chase around the house with his canine friends.  JJ is very eager to please and is a champion snuggler.  He is currently working on his house manner skills, as he is a young puppy who seems to have never lived inside a home.  However, it shouldn’t take long for him to master these skils because he is a fast learner, especially when given a lot of praise. He is housetrained. He has already learned the command sit in a really short time.  He is curious with cats but is quickly corrected if he shows too much interest and has not yet been around kids, although there's no indication he wouldn't be good with them.  Please lets find him a great home!

{Please keep in mind a dog is lifetime commitment. They need attention, love and time just like we do. In addition, adding a pet to the family does cost money in the way of food, health care, training,etc. So before adopting make sure you are willing to make that kind of commitment and have the resources to do so.}

Monday Musings

So that big snowstorm that all the weather forecasters were hyping turned into about 3 inches of snow. Yup some trough formed which blocked the snow from Philadelphia, go figure. Weather seems like it has a 50% predictability rate, a great reminder that we aren't always in control of everything. Though being a weather man or woman for a news station seems like a good deal, they make great money and don't get fired when their forecasts tank.

Though we may not have gotten socked by snow like New England, we have been experiencing clipper systems, just enough snow to make things slippery and be a nuisance of sorts.  In fact, this morning it's a slushy mix of everything that is predicted to freeze later today. The artic air leaves little desire to step outside.  Winter seems like it is becoming colder each year, the changes of season harder to adjust to as well.

The week involved a lot of catching up on tasks.

Saturday ran some errands with my mother, which is always a good time.  It was nice to get out of the house because the man seemed to wake up on the wrong side of bed, a mood which lingered throughout the weekend.  He seemed in great spirits all week but come the weekend it was not the case. In fact it seemed to linger into today.  He's not been much of a help with Cooper especially in this cold, snowy weather.  It's mainly me braving the elements. ha

Sunday was all about Puppy Bowl and Super Bowl.  Given the teams in the super bowl I was actually more excited for puppy bowl.  Though the super bowl surely kept things exciting, as not only was it a close game but one filled with some crazy play calls.

Would have really like to see the Eagles play in the super bowl or any other underdog team. Sometimes it gets boring when it's the same top teams always in it each year. Which is why I love those underdog type stories about success and winning.

The man drove me crazy complaining about the super bowl commercials being too emotional and heavy. Then tried to back his opinion up by finding every comment on twitter that agreed with his and reading them out loud. Okay yeah maybe the commercials weren't over the top funny, light hearted or even raunchy like some people seem to prefer but they got messages across. Maybe they even made people think a little. Is that so bad?

There were messages that this world needs to hear.  And maybe the people that complained so much about them are the ones that need to get in touch with their deeper selves, who knows. ha  But sometimes the rough stuff in life might be better prevented by more awareness.

In my opinion the fact that people were complaining about some of the feel good commercials, the ones that bring happy tears is exactly what is wrong with our society.  There just isn't enough feel good stuff in this world.

It's why I love McDonalds idea of pay with lovin. Basically customers who order items during randomly selected times will get to pay with lovin, meaning pay for their food with hugs, phone call to loved one or a smiling selfie. The man he pretty much thinks it's stupid. Yet that's what we need in this world....more love and more showing of love!

I read that more and more brands are thinking seriously about the role they play in life. Call it purpose, mission, whatever, but it is a sweeping force in marketing departments and agencies. To that I say it's about time.

And my man needs to loosen up not be so tight, besides emotional or deep commercials never hurt anyone.  In fact, may be if he opened himself up to them he might feel or learn something new.

Okay I'll get off my little soap box now.  :)

But this Monday show em what it really means to run like a girl!

Soul Sunday

During these beautiful yet turbulent times on Earth, you might find yourself longing for a deeper meaning to life beyond your relationships, job, or finances. As we continue to move further along in this grand shift, we all will take different paths on our journey to enlightenment. However, these universal tips can help many of us connect with our true selves on a deeper level, and unlock our full potential to shine our brightest light.

7 Ways to Connect with Your Soul on a Deeper Level

Practice Gratitude

If you want to experience the pureness of your soul, incorporating gratitude into your everyday life will help you open your heart and connect to your true essence: Love. When you wake up each day, eat a nutritious meal, hug your loved ones, or get a new job, express your thanks to the Universe.
After all, you are the universe experiencing itself, so any experience can help you reach higher levels of consciousness. Even if you experience something negative, still try to remain thankful. Valuable lessons are often disguised as tough teachers.

Eat Lighter Foods

Any time you eat chemical-laden foods that don’t come directly from a natural source, you feed your body heavy energies that will promote frantic and chaotic feelings.  In general, fresh, raw, organic fruits and vegetables will give you all the nutrients you need (except B12 and Vitamin D) and allow you to experience a deeper soulful connection

Meditate Often

The best way to get to know the soul within is to sit still and embrace the silence. You came from a place free of stillness and tranquility, so meditation allows you to connect back to source and stay grounded on a planet full of all sorts of distractions.
We have all been thrown into this fast-paced, chaotic world, but that doesn’t mean we have to give in to this energy. Meditation will help you stay calm and connected to higher realms outside of this physical, 3D world.

Accept Your Past

The longer you fight your past, the longer you will carry the karmic energy from it. No matter who hurt you or what you went through, accept it as part of your journey and move on. Forgive the people that brought you down, and look at them as helpful lessons learned on your journey.
Every person you encounter and experience you have can guide you on your way back home to source energy, so leave your past behind you and look with optimism to the future.

Do Things You Love

One of the best ways to connect with your soul is to do what makes you happy! Fill your days with activities that make you come alive, such as drawing, writing, or playing outside. All too often, we pay too much attention to our worldly responsibilities, and forget about actually enjoying our time here. Even if you have to switch jobs or careers to incorporate more of what you love, do what you need to do in order to feel fulfilled and vibrant.
If you zoom out for a second and realize that our time here on Earth is limited, this will help you to do more of what you love while you can, and remove the things that no longer serve you.

Recognize Your Oneness

Realize that everything connects with everything else on a divine level, and that you make up a part of this oneness. The universe has no limits, which means you have endless potential as well. In order to truly connect with your infinite being, you must remove all the barriers you once had and realize that the consciousness within you is also within other people, plants, and every animal on Earth. This will help you not feel so alone on your spiritual journey, and remind you that we are all one.

Open Your Heart

Don’t shy away from vulnerability; once you reveal your true self to others, you will set yourself free. Most people tuck their emotions deep within themselves, thinking that expressing feelings makes them weak or exposed. However, in order to really get to know yourself, you have to let yourself shine. This means opening up and taking down the walls that you have built around yourself throughout your life. When you open your heart, you will be able to connect to your soul more, which will help you connect to others. The ego lives within the mind, but the soul lives within the heart.

Let the sun shine through the darkest parts of your soul.
