Woof Wednesday

This weeks Woof Wednesday is dedicated to Ms Scooch our family's beloved Scottish Terrier who will always hold a special place in all our hearts and souls.

Welcome to Woof Wednesday. Please meet some great dogs from CA, NJ, NY, PA and TX all in need of good, loving homes!

Charlie Tuna is a neutered male, black and tan Scottish Terrier mix. The shelter staff thinks he is about 5 years old. He has been at the shelter since January. I am a 3rd chance dog which means I was rescued from a high-kill shelter in the area. I am very sweet and affectionate. I am not happy unless I am licking your face. I love to play with toys and take long walks. I am a very nice little dog and quickly becoming a volunteer favorite. Please lets find him a loving home.

 Scotty is a young Scottish terrier, possibly mixed with dachshund, but not sure. He is long and thin. He is probably between 6 months and a year old and fully vetted. He is a cute, active little guy. Loves to play with his foster siblings (more than they want to play with him). He is not great around young kids, is ok most of the time, but does not like them to play which makes it tough with little ones.  Please lets find him a great home!

 Sadie1 is a 2 year old, pretty, dainty, female, Scottish Terrier. She's on the small side, with more delicate features and build and is a silver brindle/ charcoal color. She resembles the old tyme scotties, like you might see in the old movies, smaller stature and a little taller, but a beauty with an angelic face. Many of you may remember Sadie from last year when her urgent situation was all over facebook and the internet. She was in a NYC shelter and had a bite of unknown origin and no vaccine history, so was going to be euthanized. After difficult negotiations, we were able to secure her release to a certified rabies quarantine facility for 6 months, where we boarded her so she could have a chance at a good life when released.  Well, here it is, 6 months later, and Sadie was cleared to go by the NY dept of health and has already gotten her rabies vaccine!! She's in good health and spirits and has just been spayed! She's just been groomed too, so is feeling tops. Sadie is not that good with other animals, especially larger dogs, but she's sweet, friendly, and loving with people. She has not had a good life prior to this, we were able to find out more about her past while investigating. She wasn't neglected, but just owned by young and irresponsible people who did not take her safety and well being into consideration. She was bitten in the neck in a fight with the other family dog who was trying to breed her and then dumped in a kill shelter to avoid paying for the vet care. Between the shelter and then our group, she got the vet care she needed to heal and bounced right back. You would never even know.  Sadie's idea home would be with someone who will take her for walks, has no other pets, and isn't in a very crowded area, as she will pull and bark when meeting up with other dogs on a leash. We are working with her on this, but it would be easier if her new home was an easy fit. This isn't uncommon for terriers, but we want applicants to be aware of everything we know about her. We will do a better job in selecting a home for her this time. She's a great, pretty, young, lively and energetic girl and will make someone the love of their life.  Please lets find her a good home!

 Nick is a Scottish Terrier mix. There is something endearing about shy guys. They do not clamor for attention and are not the first ones to get noticed but that is okay. Those who take the time to get to know them are always glad they did. That is how we feel about Nick. This handsome and dapper fella is about 2 years old and weighs in at 22 pounds. That makes him the right age and size for lots of fun things, most importantly for being close to you! Nick will need regular grooming to maintain his impeccable good looks and of course that will be good for you too- being seen with a hottie translates to companions. We are hoping that Nick will find a home with gentle people who understand that a traumatic beginning sometimes takes a little time to get over. We hope that these people have laps that need filling and lots of extra love to give. We hope that the shy boy will relax and be himself. We hope that there is a beautiful sunset on the beach and violins playing as the happy family fades into the distance.  Please lets find him a good home!

  Chandler is a Scottish Terrier a victim of our bad economy. His home was lost to foreclosure, his family forced to move, and instead of taking him with them, they left him locked inside, with a small amount of food and water. After several days of hearing his cries for help, neighbors broke in to the house, to save Chandler, and give him food and water. Afterwards, they continued to feed him, however, his life was delegated to a yard that he continuously got out of; probably looking for his family that abandoned him. After several days of research, his previous family was located, and gave us permission to place Chandler in our rescue program. As you can see from the photos, Chandler didn't have a great life, even when his family was with him. He was constantly tied up outside, left for days at a time, and his coat and skin suffered for it. The tether he was attached to, tightened around his neck, wearing down the hair and causing a rash and skin burns. These photos were taken after his matted, filthy coat was shaved off. There was no other way to properly groom him. Interestingly, after we rescued this wonderful Scottie, all of his fears went away, and he has become a true Scot.  No more worries about where his next meal will come from and no concerns for fresh water. His medical needs have now been met, and he is ready to find his new home. Feeding Chandler a high quality food helped his coat immensely, however, it may never completely return. Nevertheless, Chandler adores attention and being held and petted. So much so, he has some jealousy issues with other dogs. Please lets find him a loving home!

No paw left behind our mission!

{Please keep in mind a dog is lifetime commitment. They need attention, love and time just like we do. In addition, adding a pet to the family does cost money in the way of food, health care, training,etc. So before adopting make sure you are willing to make that kind of commitment and have the resources to do so.}
