Woof Wednesday

Welcome to Woof Wednesday. Please meet some great dogs from CA, FL NY, PA, SC and TX all in need of good, loving homes!

Dylan is a West Highland Terrier mix. He is a 30lb pure comedian who wears a smile 24/7. He absolutely loves everything and everyone and would be the perfect companion for any human and dog. He is very obedient and as gentle as can be and would do great in an active family (with or without kids) who can match his high energy and provide him with lots of exercise. Fabulous with other canine buddies, Dylan can run and wrestle with the big dogs but treats little dogs with kid gloves; he just wants to play play play to his heart€™s delight! He i€™s undeniably smart and is eager to learn more tricks. He currently knows a few basic commands, is house trained, and does well with group feeding. Dylan is as loyal as they come and his reward for loving him is lots of kisses and snuggles. He might just sneak up behind you when you a€™re not looking and give you a big smooch on the face. Please lets find him a loving home!

Jenny is sweet Greyhound who has changed quite a bit since entering foster care. She spent several weeks dealing with some extreme anxiety, especially when her foster dad would leave the house. She loves her foster mom, but shes definitely a daddys girl! To help her calm down and learn to adjust to life as a pet, we started Jenny on Prozac. She has improved tremendously and no longer panics or has extreme reactions when out on a walk (except when she sees a cat or the neighbor€™s bulldog apparently she does not like bulldogs at all) She€™s adjusting to her foster dads comings and goings, although she would definitely prefer him to take her with him. Jenny will do best in a home where there are no cats, and where someone is home most of the time and she doesn't have to be confined in a crate, which truly causes her great anxiety. She is a lovely girl who just needs a very understanding family to help her realize that she is finally home. Please lets find her a great home!

Duke is a Golden/Labrador Retriever mix who has a splendid royal air about him. There is a calm dignity about this mellow boy that has melted the rescues hearts. Through some unjust universal snafu, Duke had become just one more homeless canine statistic on the short list to Oblivion. Turns out that after Duke was rescued from the city streets by Animal Control Officers, he caught a cold in the shelter and was excluded from the adoption program. We discovered this beautiful three year old boy on the euthanasia list while we were tracking down another dog. We were surprised that this magnificent animal could fall through the cracks. So we invited Duke to join our pack. Duke had not impressed shelter staff with his sourpuss over the whole rescue process, so we gave him peace and quiet to unwind at his own pace. Duke warmed up quickly and, as soon as we got him to our vet, we discovered a nasty, painful inner ear infection which was easily treated. As soon as Duke felt better he blossomed into a total lover. Duke appears to be a pretty mix of Golden Retriever and Yellow Lab. He has the lithe, well muscled Lab physique, with the lush, caramel color of the Golden Retriever. Duke's soft, short coat needs minimal grooming, and he does not shed much. Duke would be a great choice for a quiet adult home. He seems to prefer the calm, laid back lifestyle, to one with lots of action and stimulation overload. A bustling family routine with small children would keep Duke on edge, whereas he would be in his glory with an active single or couple, who can give him lots of quality time and affection he deserves. Duke is the consummate companion dog and is completely devoted to his people. He travels well and has good manners with strangers. Duke is a medium energy dog, who needs moderate activity, at least a couple of brisk leash walks a day. Since Duke has a double dose of working Gun Dog DNA, adopters would be wise to provide lots of focused playtime and obedience work to channel his mental and physical energy. Duke has already grasped the basics of the Canine Good Citizenship program, and walks gently and calmly on lead. He has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should have reasonable expectations of a recently neutered male dog, and should be prepared to reinforce good potty habits from the beginning, and to forgive a few accidents that will occur doing Duke's transition to his new home. Duke is in excellent health, and at a lean, healthy weight of 51 pounds. Please lets find him a good home!

Martha Mae was once a beautiful, sweet girl. She was someone’s doggie. Martha is the tragic example of what happens to animals after they have been dumped and left to fend for themselves on the streets. To think, all of her anguish could have been avoided had someone cared enough not to have thrown her away like garbage. Life has turned her this way… she is so fearful that she constantly trembles and shakes uncontrollably. We haven’t found a way to console her. Her little head is always bowed like she believes that she is doomed. She has the saddest little soul our hearts are broken for her.  Martha Mae has the deck stacked up against her. She is extremely underweight, she is covered in Sarcoptic Mange (which is being treated) and Martha Mae is terrified of the shelter and of all humans. She is also heartworm positive and a black dog in a shelter. Please beg and plead for your friends to help.  We do not want to see this innocent life lost. We are looking for a special foster parent for Martha Mae. She needs someone who is willing to let her slowly come out of her shell, a special person who will understand and be gentle with her fears. She needs a miracle worker. She needs out of the shelter. Please lets find her a great home!

Lydia is a 6 year old Scottish Terrier who was released to us by a breeder and it was quickly determined she had a urinary infection caused by bladder stones. She has fully recovered from the surgery to remove the bladder stones and is now searching for a very special home to call her own. Lydia has not had much human interaction, and is therefore extremely skittish around humans. Once she gains your trust, she will come to you for love and attention. Meeting strangers, going to the groomer or vet can be stressful for her. Lydia requires a quiet family that is willing to work with her to help her realize what it's like to have a home and be able to run and play, perhaps with another Scottie. Please lets find her a good home!

*Note: Parker another Scottish Terrier who had recently been featured on Woof Wednesday had to be put down due to a recent medical crisis. It's sad to think the sweet boy never found a home. More details about his little life can be found on the Scottie Kingdom website. Blessings to him, may he find love and peace.*

No paw left behind our mission!

{Please keep in mind a dog is lifetime commitment. They need attention, love and time just like we do. In addition, adding a pet to the family does cost money in the way of food, health care, training,etc. So before adopting make sure you are willing to make that kind of commitment and have the resources to do so.}

If you want to be a part of Woof Wednesdays email Ann Michele, Lauren or leave a comment. Or simply start posting about dogs in need of a home on your blog or facebook page!
