Woof Wednesday

Welcome to Woof Wednesday. Please meet some great dogs from CA, IL, NC, NJ and TX all in need of good, loving homes!

Jose and Josie are a bonded pair of Chihuahua mix kids who need to find a home together. At only 8-9 months old, they were found together abandoned on the street, the female was pregnant. Although the male looks like a German Shepherd he is only 13 pounds, he's a Chihuahua sized German Shepherd. He is very sweet and follows his girl everywhere. They are almost full grown. They are both shy with people at first but they are incredibly sweet and playful. Let's find these two cuties a great home!

Braska is currently in a foster home with two Greyhounds who adore him and enjoy his company. As he thrives with other dogs, he would be the right fit for a home that already has one or more Greyhounds. While he is very playful, making full use of the treasure trove of dog toys at his disposal, he's also highly intelligent. Braska learns quickly and is eager to please. Since coming to stay with us, we have crate trained him. It has been a successful process and we've seen his self confidence and trust in us balloon. Braska sleeps in his crate while we are at work and chooses a dog bed over his crate at night. He is nearing the point where I will give him the choice of an open crate or a dog bed while we are at work. As for walking on a leash, he gets right into step, following our lead without missing a beat. Braska has been very gentle with my two dog-friendly kids and recognizes them as alphas. He is always happy to greet visitors with a wagging tail. A genuine cuddler, this boy is full of love. His permanent home will be lucky to have the precious presence he brings.

Gable is a Dachshund puppy and the lover boy of the group. When he is out playing he always runs over to me and asks to be picked up. He loves to be held and shows his gratitude with lots and lots of kisses. He loves to snuggle. But he also loves to play and joins in the games of chase with his siblings. Gable has the most beautiful long ears.Gable is your typical rough and tumble little boy. He would prefer to wrestle than do any other type of activity. Monday Musings

Honestly I think I say this every Monday, but where do the weekends go?

This Monday I just want more time snuggling on the couch with the man and little one.  It seems like such a simply desire but before I know it the weekend is over and it's back to the daily grind.

And as I get older I just cannot help but wonder about time.  There are those moments, when say sitting at work with the feeling of continually looking at the clock wondering why it's not moving faster or wondering when one will be free to go home.  Then there are those moments, when with those we love or doing something we love, spent wondering if we could simply freeze time and slow it down a little to savor those moments.

Its true the good moments make us want to slow down time, the not so good moments make us want to speed up time.  And weekends, well they never seem long enough.

Saturday and Sunday both filled with moments of fun, play and love....the kind you just want to freeze and savor.  We got to enjoy family and play time with the niece, good food, snuggling and focus on what really matters the most.  With all the Oscar hype we even decided to rent an Oscar nominated movie instead of watching the whole award show.  It was the kind of weekend that make Mondays feel rather barren.

But so be it, it is Monday and we can dwell on missing the weekend or we can focus on what we can do to make it feel like the weekend everyday.  I mean there must be a way right?

Started off Monday by trying to be productive.  Participated in a blog hop as there are so many interesting blogs out there but finding them isn't always easy so it's a great concept and yes the link is provided on the sidebar, cleaned up the house, scheduled all those dentist/doctor appointments I have been putting off and working on a list of other things as well.

Of course to make the everyday feel more like the weekend some play or down time must be included as well.  Wish the man worked a little closer so the little one and I could go visit at lunch or something.  Battling city traffic and then trying to find parking isn't exactly easy on a weekday in Philadelphia. And they don't allow dogs on the train here.  So need to think of ideas of how I can make the weekdays feel more like the weekends, aside from begging our corporate world to reduce work hours or give everyone three day weekends. ha

So what is a typical Monday like for you and what would make the weekdays feel more like the weekends in your life?

Soul Sunday

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

Wiffle Ball Lesson

Angel's eyesight has slowly declined through the years, being diagnosed with cataracts at an early age, then eventually glaucoma; not to mention the severe allergies or skin issues she has battled as well. But instead of feeling sorry for herself she focuses on the things she, love, sleep and wiffle ball!

She lets me know when it is time to eat.  A few barks, coming to nudge me to let me know to start making her food, sitting in the kitchen tail wagging while it's cooking and excitedly eating every crumb.  Or the belly rubs,  kisses, snuggles, other shared moments of affection and love  that always make her sigh so contently.   The mere mention of a wiffle ball sets her dancing, prancing, howling, singing and running around in joy.

Yes one little wiffle ball brings a joy to her we simply have yet to fully comprehend.  Not being able to see is challenging, we would fully understand if she wanted to simply lounge on the couch.  But she found a way to do what she loves, you see by using a wiffle ball on the hardwood floor she is able to not only hear the ball but follow the ball. Oh she still occasionally runs into things but she doesn't let that stand in her way.

Oh the lessons she teaches me, the man, our family and anyone that meets her. Her enthusiasm for finding the positive in life is inspiring.  If she could talk I'm sure her message would be to live simple, have fun, play, eat good, get plenty of sleep, do what makes you happy, focus on the positive not the negative, love unconditionally and surround yourself with people who will too.
It's amazing what a little dog and wiffle ball can teach us all.

Gertie is one of 16 rescued from horrible lives in amish puppy mills. The rescues were adult dogs aged 1-7 years who have lived their entire lives in wire cages having litter after litter of pups to be sold to pet stores.  Puppy mill dogs generally are shy but sweet natured and love other dogs.  They usually thrive in calmer adult homes with another friendly social dog for them to follow as they learn to enjoy life in a real home. Monday Musings

Hard to believe it's Monday already.  As I so often do I wonder why weekends were not created to be longer.  And why do people have to spend more time at work then they do with those they love or doing the things they love?

The weekend our goal was to try to relax.  Friday we cooked and watched a little tv.  Saturday we got some much needed snuggling, followed by dinner out.  Since we were celebrating my birthday we went to Olive Garden.  While I'm not exactly fond of getting older I am fond of their salad, soup and breadsticks.

Of course a few hours before due to go out, while snuggling on the couch a vertigo episode occurred.  Sometimes I can sense them coming on as my head starts to feel weird, sometimes see spots, there is a feeling of motion sickness and with that things start spinning.  The medicine given to take during the spells isn't working that well anymore, which is disappointing and scary as it used to be a safety net of sorts.

Anyway, I tried hard to persevere through it and the medicine allowed us to go out to eat.  But the wobbliness, nausea and barely being able to move my head lingered so had to take more medicine.  The night did not exactly go as I imagined, but it still meant a lot to me. And I was grateful just to be able to go out and have that special moment with the man.

Sunday we took Angel to Petsmart as her birthday is coming up.  She enjoys howling at the other dogs, sniffs the treats and of course eat a few too. Since she cannot see that well we usually put her in a cart, push her around the store for a little and then let her get out to walk the treat aisle.  We are willing to buy her any toy but she absolutely has no interest in them.  The only thing she likes is wiffle balls.  Which are hard to find around here during the winter months.

Anyway, this Monday I'm just wishing the weekends could be longer so we could have more fun with the people we love, doing the things we love.  Especially snuggling.

Soul Sunday

It's the little moments that make life big.

Too many times in our lives we forget to take the little moments in because we seem to only concern ourselves with the big ones, or the big ones we hope for. While big moments in our lives are certainly special, we still must remember that what matters most is the memories we make, the love we share, the beauty around us and the joy we create.

By getting caught up in the trivial we often miss the meaningful. The ever so small moments that matter most.

Sometimes small moments such as dinner time with the family, outings with the people or pets we love, a walk in the park, a simple conversation, etc., give us supreme closeness and unity in ways those big ones cannot.

So do the little things. Spend time with those who mean the most. Make love a priority. Do things that make you and those around you happy.

And pay attention to the routine things in life, they often bring the most joy.

Valentine's Thoughts

Valentine's Day has me pondering love.  Such as the couple in the news the other day for being the longest married couple, married 80 years.

In an era where we seem to be bombarded with statistics such as sixty percent of marriages eventually result in divorce, it can be hard for many to even fathom.  Worse yet people seem to accept that percentage instead of trying to address it or better yet do something to change it.

We watch these Hollywood movies about love where the couple meet and then ride off into the sunset thinking that's what love should be like. We just don't see what comes after the sunset.  As finding love and keeping love are two different things.

Great relationships just don't happen, there's a lot that goes into making them successful, strong, sustaining, loving and most of all enduring.  It may not sound romantic but relationships require a certain amount of work.  The amount of energy, attention, time, work, love one devotes to something is directly proportional to it's success. Love and relationships are no different!

Love that works is the result of both partners putting energy and intention into building a mutually satisfying relationship. This includes being around when things are not so great, not so comfortable, not so happy and being willing to stay the course towards finding a path that leads back to positive love, fulfillment, passion, joy, and all the other things we truly want in a relationship.

No relationship will ever be perfect because humans are not perfect, life is not perfect and love wasn't meant to be perfect.  It's the very imperfections that teach us the most about love and how to love.

Words such as compassion, kindness, giving, honesty, affection, loyalty, communication, trust, understanding, fun, humor, play, appreciation, gratitude, respect, caring, unselfishness, friendship, acceptance, patience, unconditional are a few words that come to mind when thinking of love.  As love cannot exist nor sustain itself without these things.

Yet amongst all those words mentioned above there is one missing as well....balance.  It might not be something that first comes to mind when one thinks about love, but as relationships progress through the years balance becomes crucial.  There is no question that if a relationship is one-sided, it will not stand. Love needs to be an equal give and take of all those beautiful qualities listed above.

If one person is constantly doing things big or small, catering to the needs of another but not receiving the same back it becomes a very one sided situation.  In any relationship both individuals need to have their needs met and negotiate for them being met.  A balanced give and take is extremely important for creating a sustaining, strong, loving relationship.

We live in a society that over time has become more selfish.  We want things now, we want things our way, on our terms, when we desire them, we want the least path of resistance or work etc, and we run from, avoid or do anything possible to avoid anything that makes us feel a little uncomfortable. We seem to care more about what someone has, does or even looks like than who they truly are. But those things have become the very things that lead to the demise and imbalance of love.

Love and relationships require both individuals to commit to devoting time, work  and whatever else needed to create not only balance but sustained love.  It means both people not only need to be willing to compromise but willing to make positive changes sometimes as well.  And change isn't necessarily a bad thing if people can do it together, as change helps us grow, it enlightens our souls and allows us to become more loving and who we are meant to me.  Sometimes the greatest challenges in relationships and love can be the very things that bring couples closer together, but they have to be willing to stay the course, do a little work and make love a priority.

Maybe the secrets to lasting love will always be a mystery, or maybe they are already within each of us. This I know is not just about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship. It’s not about how much love you have in the beginning, but how much love you build over time. It should make your smile a little wider and your life a little brighter.

And maybe this is the best wisdom yet....

We come to love not by finding the perfect person but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

May your Valentine's Day be filled with love.

Monday Musings

The weekend started off slow as the weather people kept insisting we would probably get around 6 inches from the storm. Being the storms center was hoovering around New York it kept the heavy snow to our north.  If the storm had centered around North Carolina then it would have impacted us directly.  Turns out the storm only gave us a few inches if that. But we had already decided to stay in, as the gusty winds made it feel bitterly cold.

Sunday was a different story.  We made up for the lack of doing nothing for sure.  Looked at two houses, went to lunch at the Reading Terminal fun little spot in Philly with many different eateries to choose from, then onto the Tattoo Convention and even fit in a little shopping as well.

Felt rather like a fish out of water at the Tattoo Convention as I'm pretty sure I was the only person without ink.  Think the man and I were the only two there that looked like we stepped out of the JCrew catalog sporting vibrant colors (we definitely got some looks), majority of people sported black in either the grunge or biker look. Many of the girls were scantily clad. Next time I will sport one of my cute flannels instead.

Unlike me the man is inked, in fact he has quite a few tattoos which often times surprise most people and drive me nuts. But he was wearing lots of layers so they were not visible to others.
He has a big four leaf Celtic type of clover on his arm, with a shady looking leprechaun below it.  On his ankles he has one for the Denver Broncos, SF Giants and frat initials from his college days.  At least the ankles ones are not too noticeable but the arm ones drive me crazy.

Don't get me wrong I think the artwork involved in tattoos is phenomenal, I enjoy checking them out on others.  In fact, we have become rather hooked on that reality show Inkmaster. And though I have thought about getting one or even two I know it would drive me crazy to know it was permanently on my skin.  This may sound funny but I would feel like my skin is dirty and get tired of it being in same place. ha

I have no photos to show from the weekend which I'm a little bummed about.  But sometimes it's good to simply enjoy the moment without worrying about capturing it on film.

Anyway, this Monday I'm simply trying to get some work done. I've decided it's easier to make lists then have to try to remember it all.  Plus seeing it written down helps inspire me to complete it in a more timely fashion. So it's back to working on the list.

Enjoy the simple pleasures of a walk.
Avoid biting when a growl will do.
Keep digging until you find what you want.
Never underestimate the power of a belly rub.
Accept all of life's treats with gratitude.

And don't forget to smell the flowers....

Dogs & Puppies at the Moreno Valley Animal Services facility are in desperate need of adoption. They are not receiving enough adopters, thus after a short 10-14 days after they arrive at the shelter, they have not choice but to euthanize for cage space. This dog needs you to save them.  Please spread the word to your friends, family & local rescues to turn the urgent situation at Moreno Valley around.  Let's find a good home for this special dog!

This pet is located at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter and urgently needs to be adopted or rescued. For more information about this dog, call the shelter at (951) 413-3790, as our group's email link in the posting does not reach the shelter.

Meet the dynamic duo of Buttons and Bouncer, 7 year old Poodle brothers.  These happy little fellas are ready and eager to find a forever home to call their own. Buttons, at 15 pounds, is relaxed and easy going. He is happy to be held and petted, or is just as happy to hang out with his best pal Bouncer. Bouncer, the big brother at 21 pounds, is the leader of the pair, always watching out for his little brother, but even more likely keeping an eye out for what his favorite person is up to. These two sweet boys really enjoy their daily walks. When they see the leashes come out, they are ready to go. They also enjoy car rides and will sit nicely on the back seat watching as the scenery passes by. And by the way, these pups want everyone to know that they are a bonded pair so when you adopt them together, they promise to double your love.  Please lets find these brothers a great home!

Feel free to use social media to spread the word about these dogs. The more people hear about them the better chance they have of finding homes. Thanks. (or as the dogs would say woof, woof)

No paw left behind our mission!

{Please keep in mind a dog is lifetime commitment.  They need attention, love and time just like we do.  In addition, adding a pet to the family does cost money in the way of food, health care, training,etc. So before adopting make sure you are willing to make that kind of commitment and have the resources to do so.}

If you want to be a part of Woof Wednesdays email Ann MicheleLauren or leave a comment.  Or simply start posting about dogs in need of a home on your blog or facebook page!
