I think on any holiday it's good to remind ourselves what the holiday actually stands for.  So here is the wikipedia short definition for July 4th.

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, political speeches and ceremonies, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the national day of the United States.

Also, here is a great site that provides interesting information on our countries historic documents.

And we can't overlook the fact that our great country is going through some rough times.  The wars in the middle east, the gulf oil spill, millions without healthcare, high unemployment, a down economy, high crime rates, and so today while we are having fun celebrating this holiday.....

Let's also pray.... for those men and women who bravely fight for freedom, for those people unemployed who might not be able to feed their families today, for those who are sick and unable to get proper medical treatment, for our government to find a way to solve the economic crisis, for protection of our environment, for protection of our citizen, and for those individuals who need help.

A country is only as great as it's people, and we need to each take responsibility for making our country better.  "It only takes one person to change the world, be the one" "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

May everyone have a safe and happy July 4th!

God Bless America

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,

Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,

As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "
 God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her

Thru the night with a light from above.

From the mountains, to the prairies,

To the oceans, white with foam

God bless America, My home sweet home.
